ISCF Welcomes Potential Policy Shift on Rent Pressure Zones
Clarity Sought on Short-Term Rental Businesses
The Irish Self-Catering Federation (ISCF) acknowledges Taoiseach Micheál Martin’s recent indication that
Rent Pressure Zones (RPZs) may be altered or abolished by the end of the 2025.
“While RPZs were designed to control housing costs, they have inadvertently posed challenges for short-term rental (STR)
businesses, which are integral to Ireland’s tourism sector,” an ISCF spokesperson said.
“This situation raises concerns for Short Term Rental businesses that have been denied planning permission in
RPZ areas, such as Kinsale and Killarney.
“For instance, a couple in Kinsale recently had their application to use an apartment as a short-term let rejected
by An Bord Pleanála, citing concerns over exacerbating the existing shortage of long-term rented accommodation in the area.
“The ISCF has been advocating for self-catering owners since 2019 in Dublin and remains committed to supporting
our members in navigating these regulatory challenges.
“If you are a self-catering owner, we encourage you to join the ISCF to benefit from our ongoing efforts to protect
and promote your business interests,” the ISCF statement concluded.
